Snow and Christmas trees
Nov 27, 2006 1:15 PM
Today we woke up and it was snowing! It was so beautiful. I just love it when everything is covered in a blanket of white. We got all bundled up and went out to play. Nathan growled at the snow and had a huge grin on his face. Joshua discovered snowball fights and Hannah made a snow angel. I took some great pictures.
I am in the Christmas mood now that Thanksgiving is over (I ate way too much pie!). I have been playing Christmas C.D.s and playing Christmas songs on the piano. MY husband strung a few icicle lights up and soon we will probably put up the tree. Every year we put up the same fake tree.
When I was growing up my family always had a real tree. Often times we chopped down our own. It was a lot of fun, and it always smelled so good. My husband's family always had a real tree also. I never thought I would have a fake tree....
In December 2001, Christmas time approched quickly. My husband and I still hadn't been married a full year yet. We had just brought little Joshua home from the hospital at the beginning of November 2001. My husband was working and was also a student. We had spent all our savings on a casket for our son Jacob (Joshua's twin) that had passed away in July of 2001 and to stay in the Ronald McDonald house during Joshua's long NICU stay. Needless to say, we didn't have a lot of extra money and getting a Christmas tree was at the end of our needs list. We decided to just not have a tree that year and hope we could have one the next year.
My friend Gretchen knew we didn't have a tree, so what did she do? She bought us a small fake Christmas tree. I was so excited and grateful. I had never wanted a fake one, but this tree was better than not having one. Our small apartment was lit up that night with the lights and decorations hanging on our new fake Christmas tree. I can't even express my feelings of gratitude and love for my friend. Not everyone is as lucky as I am to have such a great friend. She really brightned and cheered us up during a hard time in our lives.
So.....every year we pull out that little fake tree and use it. I always remember that first Christmas together...our first Christmas married and our first Christmas with Joshua. I always remember my friend Gretchen and how much joy she brought to us that year. I don't know if I will ever be able to get rid of that little tree...I have grown kind of attached. In ten years it will probably look like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree...every year it looses more and more plastic needles.
I hope everyone enjoys this fast approaching Christmas season. It is a wonderful time to remember and give thanks for the birth of our Savior. Babies are so special...I wonder what Mary was thinking as she looked at her tiny newborn son. I am sure she felt the same love and devotion we all feel towards our own little ones. I am so blessed.
Happy Holidays,
Tiffany

I'm so sorry that you lost one of your twins, but it sounds like you have so many wonderful things to be thankful for. Thanks for letting me have a glimpse into your world. And I love the Christmas tree...sometimes the gestures of others are so much more than they could ever imagine they are!!
- Nov 27, 2006 8:32 PMIf I were you...I wouldn't be able to part with your tree. Sentimental reasons...would keep it in my home forever. So glad you're getting into the Christmas spirit. I'm trying - but it's unseasonably warm here...and it just doesn't feel like Christmas!Take care -Denise
- Nov 28, 2006 12:57 AMThank you for sharing that beautiful tree with all of us... It is a true Christmas miracle your friend was able to share with you... God bless her and your family.I am glad that you are having such a good time playing in the snow and getting ready for Christmas! We - thankfully!! - have not had any real snow yet... My boys get up every morning and race to the windows... Poor guys; it is supposed to be in the mid-50's all week!Merry Christmas!Becky
