Snow Pictures and Christmas Ornaments

I am going to try to post a few pictures. If it doesn't work, I'll try again later when my husband gets home and can make it work. he definitely knows computers better than I do!!

This morning I was thinking about Christmas again. Suprise suprise!! I wanted to share a little tradition that we have in our family.

Every year my husband and I give our children a new Christmas ornament. We get the same ornament (or similar) for each child and write their names and the year on it. When we decorate the tree each year my children get to hang their own ornaments up....with our help(they are still kind of small to do it all on their own). On Christmas Eve my husband and I hang up their new ornaments for them to find on Christmas morning.

This year Joshua will be getting his sixth ornament. Hannah will be getting her fourth and Nathan will be getting his second one. We also buy and ornament for our son, Jacob, who is in Heaven. It serves as a visual reminder that we do have four children even though one is not with us. It also helps remind and teach our other children about their special brother.

Someday, the kids will grow up and leave to lead their own lives with their own families. Then they can take their own ornament collections and be able to remember our Christmas' together. My husband and I will also have a collection...Jacob's collection to put up every year to remind us of him and also of the Christmas' we shared with our other children.

Thanks for letting me share.

  • What a neat tradition you have started.  Your kids will treasure the memories of those ornaments forever! The pictures are adorable, too!  Thanks for sharing.

  • Tiffany,
What a nice tradition.  I love it when families have Christmas traditions.  I love remembering the memories of my childhood Christmas'!  Your kids are adorable.  While you have snow...we had a thunder and lightening storm in Iowa tonight!?!

  • I love your tradition - especially because it's exactly the one we have...with a twist.  We put Phillips ornaments on the tree first every year - since he was our firstborn.  And we get ornaments for the girls each year that we have engraved with their name and the year.  Those we will give to them when they are in their own homes.
I love looking at the ornaments for all 3 of my children - even my angel in heaven.
    Great pics!

  • We also buy the boys an ornament each year; it is one of Kevin's favorite Christmas presents.  We also buy a "family" ornament; something to symbolize a major part of our year - like last year we got a dog, so we got an black lab ornament.  This year we have an angel to buy for as well - our little girl Jadyn.
We have already gotten Jadyn's angel, and my husband and I have discussed that as the years progress we will continue getting her one.  Probably not an angel every year, but something.  It is nice to have those visual reminders around us.
Thank you for once again sharing a part of your Christmas with us.  And your kids are adorable!

  • We do the very same ornament thing with our kids, also buying ones for our angels!  It sure fills up the tree fast!

You seemed to be the one who understood what I was saying. Thank you for taking the time to not just skim through, but truly read my post.

  • Tiffany,
Oh and we too have ornaments from last year for Naomi Joy's 1st Christmas. (she was not with us for Christmas last year)
I like this tradition as well, it gives those of us who have lost, that bittersweet reminder that we do have children in Heaven... and that we did have them, if even only for a little while.
    Blessings!
